First used on Tarzan (1999), Deep Canvas was a way to paint 3D geometry in a virtual space. It allowed filmmakers to move the action into a traditional background, creating an environment that characters could move through by giving the camera the ability to look in every direction. 🖥️ Watch #Tarzan on #DisneyPlus. ✨ Join us as we look at the artistry, technology, and people that have shaped #100YearsofDisneyAnimation.

Cartoon Hub on Instagram: "🎬 Interesting Fact: Tarzan (1999) Disney built an entirely new animation program called Deep Canvas just for this movie — a revolutionary tool that let artists paint entire 3D environments by hand. It allowed Tarzan to “surf” through the jungle on branches with smooth camera movement never seen in 2D animation before. Every background wasn’t just a still painting — it had depth, lighting, and texture, all created brushstroke by brushstroke. This mix of traditio

Sarcasmshow on Instagram: "This clip is from Disney’s Tarzan (1999), showing Tantor and Terk’s rescue scene. Facts: Based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel. Used “Deep Canvas” tech for 3D jungle effects. Tarzan’s moves inspired by skateboarder Tony Hawk. Phil Collins’ songs won an Oscar. Budget: $130M, priciest animated film then."

kitchhhh on Instagram: "Fun Fact: To make the jungle look 3D and immersive, Disney developed a technology called "Deep Canvas." It allowed artists to paint 2D backgrounds that the camera could fly through, which is why the scenes of Tarzan "surfing" through the trees look so fast and fluid. #relationships #explore #funnny #coupplechaos #coldcaring"

Filmight | Cinema & Laughs on Instagram: "🌿 Interesting Fact: Tarzan (1999) — Disney developed a groundbreaking animation technique called Deep Canvas specifically for this film. It allowed artists to paint fully 3D jungle environments while animating Tarzan in traditional 2D, letting him slide, swing, and surf through trees with smooth, dynamic camera movement. This hybrid approach gave Tarzan its signature sense of speed and freedom and later influenced how Disney blended 2D and 3D animation

flow on Instagram: "❤️Interesting Fact: Tarzan (1999) - The animators of this movie used a technique called "Deep Canvas" to create the lush, 3D-like jungle environments, but for this specific scene, the focus was on anatomy. To make the interaction between Tarzan and Jane feel authentic, the lead animator for Tarzan, Glen Keane, studied the hand movements of his own children and great apes to capture that unique blend of curiosity and hesitation. Additionally, Tarzan's distinct "tree surfing" m

Imagination on Instagram: "Video-82 Disney’s Tarzan (1999) remains one of the most high-energy and visually distinct films of the Disney Renaissance. It reimagines Edgar Rice Burroughs' classic tale with a focus on the internal conflict of belonging—captured perfectly in the "Two Worlds, One Family" theme. Unlike previous adaptations, this version utilized "Deep Canvas" technology, allowing the 2D-animated Tarzan to "surf" through 3D-rendered jungle canopies with incredible fluidity. The film’s
